Manual handling is an unavoidable physical practice in every workplace. While working you may be required to pull, carry or push heavy objects like bags, carts, boxes etc. Sometimes manual handling could not be avoided in the workplace. The chances of risks happening while manual handling is extremely high. When you don’t have confidence in lifting the weight and still you have to take that it may cause long term injuries to you.
The HSE states that one-third of the total injuries comes under manual handling category. In the calendar year of 2014 - 2015 there were 169000 cases for work-related musculoskeletal disorders like pain and injury to arms, legs and joints as well as repetitive strain injury. So it’s really important for the companies to ensure that all their workers have undergone manual handling training.

The course is aimed at employees within an organisation who have been tasked with training other colleagues in safe manual handling principles and covers safe manual handling techniques, manual handling risk assessment and training techniques.

Normally light & comfortable courses are recommended during the training. It is also good if you could wear closed toe or safety shoes. The attendees of the course should have reasonable fitness and flexibility. People who are suffering from hip pain, knee injury & back pain should avoid the course.
The course duration will be 5 days and usually, 10 to 15 attendees are allowed to attend the course. On the successful completion of the course, the attendees will be given a QQI level 6 certification which will be valid for 5 years. All manual handling trainers in Ireland are expected to have this QQI Level 6 Manual Handling Instructor qualification in line with HSA recommendation.
